What changed

The changes a reader would notice are listed here, newest first, and an entry is not rewritten afterwards. When we change how a number is counted, it is listed here when it takes effect. The page starts when Shelf opened at seetheshelf.com.

  1. Visits to the public pages are counted

The public pages now count visits with Google Analytics, and Microsoft Clarity shows us how they are used, with what you type hidden. The signed-in screens, sign-in, setup, invoices and a booked call’s page are counted only by our own server, which sets no cookie. The privacy and sub-processors pages say what each one sees, and a call booked on the talk page is listed there too.

  2. Fewer rows in the menu

Stores now sits in Your shelf, beside your stock and prices; on an account with no brand of its own, that group is Brands you follow. Discounts is a tab of Prices, and Your range gaps a tab of Where you are missing, so neither has a row of its own. The Stores and discounts row of an account with no brand is gone: every store is on Stores, and every discount on Prices.

  3. Alerts say when, counted back

An alert, by mail or in Slack, says when its lines were read in words such as “read yesterday” or “read over the last 4 days”, never as a date. The preview of the mail on the Alerts screen says the same words.

  4. Location intelligence, a second product on Shelf

Every store of the 22 apps: where each one is, what we know about it, and the stores that are new, closed or moved since the count before. It has screens of its own under Locations in the menu, and can be taken with any plan or on its own.

  5. Shelf opens at seetheshelf.com

Shelf is open at seetheshelf.com, and its mail comes from that address. An account here is Shelf’s own: it signs in to nothing else, and nothing else signs in to it. On Pro: alerts posted as signed JSON to your own webhook, and Excel and CSV files with a stated allowance (300,000 rows a month, 50,000 a file; the Exports screen shows the month so far). An alert to Slack or a webhook that fails 24 times in a row is paused, and its owner is told by email. The site has a page for each kind of intelligence and for each app we read, guides, a glossary, and a page on how brands use it.
