Ads intelligence

See which brands show up in the ads when shoppers search for you.

Your ad panel shows your own campaigns. The apps’ result pages show everyone’s. Shelf reads them city by city and shows who held the paid slots: on your keywords, on your own brand name, and in each city.

Method

How we read it

  1. 1

    We search at the store

We open each app at one dark store’s delivery area at a time and search it city by city: product words, brand names and needs.

  2. 2

We keep the page as it came

The results in order, and which ones the app itself marks as paid. Nothing is guessed: a slot is paid when the app says so.

  3. 3

    We count over many searches

By brand, keyword, city and position. A brand is named on a keyword only when it held a paid slot in five or more cities.

Questions about ads intelligence

How do you know which brands are in the ads?

We open each app at a dark store’s delivery area, search it city by city, and record the page that comes back: the results in order and which ones the app itself marks as sponsored. We then count by brand, keyword, city and position, over many searches.

Does Shelf show what a rival spends on ads?

No. We see where an ad appeared. What it cost, its bids and clicks are in the advertiser’s own account.

Which apps does it cover?

Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, BigBasket, Flipkart Minutes and JioMart.

Another brand shows up in the ads on my name. Did it choose my name?

Not necessarily. Apps also place paid slots by category, so a brand can show up on a search for your name without having picked it. Shelf shows that the slot was on the page, and in how many cities.

Do I need to connect my ad account?

No. Nothing in the product is built on a login. Everything shown comes from the apps’ own result pages, city by city.

How fresh is it?

Every store on the apps we read is read again every day (JioMart and Amazon Now twice a day), and every read is kept as history. Pro is refreshed every day, and every hour in your target cities once set up. Free is refreshed every week.

Which plan shows a rival’s ads?

Every plan sets your own ads beside the totals of a rival you watch. A rival’s own map (its keywords, its cities and the other brands’ names its paid slots appeared on) opens on Pro, ₹29,999 a month, GST included.
